The Walnut Tree has two restaurants which would satisfy anyone's needs. There is the 'a la Carte' restaurant which serves traditional a la Carte food which has made The Walnut Tree such a success for many years. In June 2005 the 'Rosewood' restaurant replaced the 'Brasserie' with chef Neil Cadle still at the helm. The a la Carte restaurant has produced well known food which many customers have come to expect of the Walnut Tree for the last 10 years since Peter Ball became Head Chef. Set in the oldest part of the building the restaurant offers a perfect setting for a romantic meal in the cosy cottage style candlelit surroundings. The A la Carte restaurant is open Monday night through to Sunday Lunch taking orders from 12 noon with last orders being taken at 8.45pm. The Walnut Tree is also proud to announce the opening of the new 'Rosewood Restaurant' which replaces the brasserie restaurant with head chef Neil Cadle still at the helm, with a menu that consists of modern English and French Cuisine that changes every four weeks with its ingredients changing due to seasons and its availability.

By Car From the North (M5): - Leave the M5 at exit 25 (Taunton) and follow the A358 to Ilminster and join the A303. - At the Cartgate roundabout (after signs for Martock and Stoke) turn right along the A3088 towards Yeovil. - After about 4 miles, turn left at the first roundabout, then go straight on at the next 3 roundabouts, and straight up Western Avenue. - At the T-junction, turn left, then take the next right (about 100 yards) down into the village of Thorne. - Just before the gate across the road, take the last drive on the right-hand side. Come to the top of the drive where there is safe private parking. From the East (A303): - Leave the M3 at exit 8 (Popham) and join the A303. - At Ilchester, join the A37 (south) towards Yeovil. - After approximately 4 miles (coming up a hill) turn right at the roundabout, signposted to Thorne. - Continue along this road, over a double mini-roundabout and onto Thorne Lane - Continue over a second mini-roundabout then take the next right down into the village of Thorne. - Just before the gate across the road, take the last drive on the right-hand side. For those with Sat-Nav, our location is: 2 degrees 40' 37" W, 50 degrees 57' 31" N. Please note: Access to Thorne from the north (via Chilthorne Domer) is restricted by a gate, so the best way to approach is from the southern end of the village, via Thorne Lane. Take care, particularly in the dark, not to miss the Thorne signpost off Thorne Lane. This can be difficult to see and also can be partly obscured by trees. Please telephone at any time if in doubt By Public Transport The nearest train stations are: Yeovil Junction 8 km and Yeovil Penn Mill 4 km. The nearest bus station is at Yeovil, 4 km away. The Cow Shed is set on the site of a family-run farm, owned by the Snell family. The farm is purely an organic producer of beef. The farmyard is made up of a collection of barns including stables and the old dairy. Fishing is available on the private lake.

By Car (from the M3 motorway): - Leave the M3 motorway at junction 8, following the signs for the A303, Andover and the South West. - Continue on the A303 for about 90 minutes, until you reach the Sparkford roundabout (near the Mcdonald’s). - At this roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto the A303, following the signs for Taunton. - At the next roundabout (by the Travelodge), take the 2nd exit, again onto the A303 towards Taunton. - After about 0.75 miles (1.2 km) take the turning to Yeovil and Ilchester, onto the A37. - Follow this road until you reach the roundabout. - At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto the A37, signposted Yeovil. - After about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) you will come to another roundabout. Take the 1st exit onto Combe Street Lane. - Just before the end of Combe Street Lane, turn left onto Stone Lane. - Continue down Stone Lane for about 200 metres, until you reach the entrance to The Cow Shed on the left-hand side - Carry on down the drive, keeping to your right-hand side.
