By Car (from the A303): - Leave the A303at the Cartgate roundabout and take the A3088, following the signs towards Yeovil. - At the end of this road, take the 3rd exit at the roundabout. - Follow this road directly across the mini-roundabout and continue straightahead through 2 sets of traffic lights, past the B&Q store and Safeway. - At the next roundabout (by the police station), take the 2nd exit, straight over the mini roundabout and up the hill. - On the brow of the hill, take a left turn into the road signed Penn Hill. - Follow this one- way street and take the 2nd left into St Nicholas Close. - Follow this small road and drive through the surgery car park to the lower half and park in one of the reserved spaces. - Follow the lit walkway. - At the bottom of this walkway, on the left, is the entrance to GlobeTrotters Lodge and to the right is the entrance to the bar and restaurant. Parking: GlobeTrotters Lodge has limited parking available. There are various NCP public car parks within easy walking distance of GlobeTrotters, with parking available at an additional cost. Please note that if you park in the doctors surgery, you are liable to be clamped or fined. Globetrotters Lodge will not be held responsible for this.

Green Arches B&B - Bed and Breakfast - Hotel information

We are conscious of the current and future environmental issues that are likely to affect us all, so during our refurbishment, we have attempted to reduce our carbon emissions to do our bit. Green Arches benefits from 40 solar evacuated tubes (20 tubes south facing and 20 tubes west facing), which is estimated to provide all our and guests’ hot water needs for 6 months of the year and up to 30% of our hot water during the winter. We also have solar tiles installed (south facing), which generate up to 1.5 Kw of electricity. In practice this has equated to over 1,100 KWh (units on the meter) in the past 12 months. The surplus of our usage has been fed directly back to the national grid. We use a 6,000 litre water storage tank (installed underneath our garage) in which we collect rainwater from our roof (over 100 m² coverage), which is then recycled and used for our washing machine and to flush all of the toilets. We make full use of the local recycling services and facilities. We have calculated that we produce approximately 3 to 4 tonnes of CO2 per year (based on full guest occupancy of Green Arches), compared to the average of 10 tonnes per year for 2 people in the UK. All in all, we believe we are environmentally friendly.

An iron and ironing board, along with hairdryers, are also available on request. Thermostatically controlled underfloor heating ensures warmth throughout each room and bathrooms, all equipped with a heated towel radiator, ensuring the luxury towels provided are warmed and ready for use. In addition complimentary speciality teas, hot chocolate, luxury biscuits, bottles of still water and speciality chocolates.

By Car From the North (M5): - Leave the M5 at exit 25 (Taunton) and follow the A358 to Ilminster and join the A303. - At the Cartgate roundabout (after signs for Martock and Stoke) turn right along the A3088 towards Yeovil. - After about 4 miles, turn left at the first roundabout, then go straight on at the next 3 roundabouts, and straight up Western Avenue. - At the T-junction, turn left, then take the next right (about 100 yards) down into the village of Thorne. - Just before the gate across the road, take the last drive on the right-hand side. Come to the top of the drive where there is safe private parking. From the East (A303): - Leave the M3 at exit 8 (Popham) and join the A303. - At Ilchester, join the A37 (south) towards Yeovil. - After approximately 4 miles (coming up a hill) turn right at the roundabout, signposted to Thorne. - Continue along this road, over a double mini-roundabout and onto Thorne Lane - Continue over a second mini-roundabout then take the next right down into the village of Thorne. - Just before the gate across the road, take the last drive on the right-hand side. For those with Sat-Nav, our location is: 2 degrees 40' 37" W, 50 degrees 57' 31" N. Please note: Access to Thorne from the north (via Chilthorne Domer) is restricted by a gate, so the best way to approach is from the southern end of the village, via Thorne Lane. Take care, particularly in the dark, not to miss the Thorne signpost off Thorne Lane. This can be difficult to see and also can be partly obscured by trees.
