The house has its own bar/lounge and a cosy residents' lounge with a real fire in the winter where you can relax and unwind. Served in the Eden Room each morning, the Great Cumbrian Breakfast is guaranteed to prepare you for the day ahead. The bar/lounge area and several bedrooms and en suite bathrooms have been upgraded and refurbished in early 2008. The hotel has since been awarded a 5-Star Silver rating in the guest accommodation category by VisitBritain.

Family Run Licenced Country Guest House set in rural area just outside Penrith and only 2 miles from M6 junction 40 and A66 East and West, making it an ideal stopover location. All our double , Family and Twin rooms have views over the front gardens and the countryside beyond. Meals are available from our residents bar between 18:00 and 21:00 with last orders for food at 20:00. We like to support our local food producers wherever possible and all our bacon , sausages an Black pudding come from Bellas butchers of Shap. Mr Bellas has won awards for his Cumberland Sausage. We also provide the option of trying locally produced Jersey Milk ( when available ) this is produced by a herd of Jersey cows in the village. The hotel aims to make your stay an enjoyable one, where you feel at home and well cared for. There are no strangers here , only friends that we have not yet met. Please note we are not able to accept American Express.

All of our double, twin and family rooms have views out over the front gardens and the surrounding countryside beyond. We have a variety of family rooms available, the largest of which can accommodate 2 adults and 3 children under the age of 16 years. All of the rooms are comfortable and charming.

Breakfast is available from 08:00 until 09:00. We have a small bar menu available in the evening between 18:00 and 20:30, with last orders for food at 20:00. The striking design features of the Martindale Restaurant include timber beams, traditional stone and wooden floors and impressive Lakeland stone fireplaces. The menus change daily to reflect the finest, freshest ingredients available locally. The restaurant offers regional specialities and classic dishes, including traditional favourites, with a bit of a twist. Wherever possible, the restaurant uses regional produce, simply prepared with lots of local and regional influence. The Martindale Cafe and Terrace Lounge offers 2 different areas and one great all-day menu. The cafe offers speciality teas, freshly brewed coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice, as well as home-made cakes and pastries, light meals and traditional supper dishes. The cafe has a stylish interior and a relaxed atmosphere. The comprehensive wine list offers a selection of wines from around the world to complement your meal, including a specially selected Wine of the Season. Move on to the Terrace Lounge for more relaxation, with comfortable sofas and views across the hills. The lounge is the ideal place to catch up on the day's news or just enjoy the peace and quiet. The Stag Bar offers a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks including a range of wine and real ales, brewed in Blackburn by Daniel Thwaites. Room service is available 24 hours a day. Children's meals are available, but in order to preserve a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere for all guests the hotel asks that families with children aged less than 12 years dine in the restaurant prior to 20:00. Children can either choose a meal from the children's Trekkers menu or they can order half portions from the à la carte menu and pay half price.

Leave the M6 at junction 40 and follow the A592 into Penrith, proceed to the mini roundabout and turn back on yourself. Take the first left turn on to Clifford Road and an immediate right on to the hotel car park. Leave the train station and turn right along the main road. Follow until you arrive at a roundabout (aproximately a 10 minute walk), cross over the mini roundabout and take the left on to Clifford Road.

(1/2 mile) By air to Newcastle (90 miles) or Manchester (120 miles): continue by coach or train.
