The Cranleigh - Bed and Breakfast - Hotel information

The Cranleigh has recently been purchased by a local family who have started to transform the beautiful 1890s property into a cutting-edge luxury guest house. They have just finished refurbishment of the reception, lounge and dining areas with detailed help from a professional interior designer. The results are fantastic and set a new standard for guest houses. With new luxury rooms and standard older rooms available, the property is perfectly positioned for exploring the area, and is within one minute’s walk of Lake Windermere and all the other facilities the village has to offer. There is free parking on-site for up to 14 vehicles, and the guest house has excellent leisure facilities located 200 metres off-site. Please note that we cannot accommodate children in an any of the luxury or superior rooms.

Standard rooms are en suite and have standard facilities which include tea/coffee making facilities, quality bedding and accessories. The newly refurbished luxury rooms have excellent facilities including a king-size bed with luxury bedding, 40 inch flat-screen TVs, DVD recorders, 17" mirrored bathroom TVs, air spare baths, iPod docking stations, heated floors, fantastic accessories and much more.

By Car (from the South and East): - On the M6 turn off at junction 36 and take the A591 towards Windermere. At the large roundabout take the 1st left, B5284 signposted Hawkshead via Ferry and Crook. - Travel along this road for 6 miles, past Windermere Golf Club on the left to the junction of A5074. - At staggered crossroad turn right. The Cranleigh is 500 yards away on the left hand side. Directions from Scotland and the North East: - On the M6 turn off at junction 40 and take the A66 towards Keswick. - Take either A592 via Ullswater and Kirkstone Pass to Windermere, or continue along A66 to Threlkeld and turn left through St. Johns in the Vale to Windermere on the A591 via Grasmere and Ambleside. - At the junction of the A591 and A592 head south to Bowness Bay. - On entering Bowness you will see Costa Coffee on your right, turn left onto Kendal Road. The Cranleigh is 200 yards away on the right hand side. By Rail: - The nearest railway station is Windermere, 2.5 miles from the hotel. The main West Coast line station is Oxenholme which is 10 miles from the hotel. - There is a National Express coach stop at Windermere Station. - Taxis can be arranged from any of the stations or airports at an additional charge and booked via the hotel.

Perhaps a bottle of wine or champagne, maybe local chocolates or even a birthday cake. Just let us know. We do not make a profit from this service, we only hope it helps to make your holiday a special one. Please note: We read all our reviews and try to answer any frequently asked questions. Our car park is approx 20 yards away within the Belsfield Hotel grounds. It is the first entrance on the right after passing Virginia Cottage.There has never been a safety problem to date. A few guest comments refer to a water pressure problem. How bad is it ? We have now installed a mains pressure hot water system to power the hydro therapy jet showers and spa/jacuzzi baths. We do not charge extra for spa /jacuzzi or specialized showers. We do not accept groups of more than 2 rooms together ( 4 people ). Groups larger than this will be cancelled.

Our rooms are either double or four poster rooms each having been individually redecorated to reflect the unique charm of Virginia Cottage. All rooms have en suite facilities. Although not of hotel size every room comes equipped to hotel standard, with TV and dvd player (we have over 150 dvd's available on request), radio cd-player, hairdryer, fridge(wine/champagne/flowers/chocolates can be arranged for arrival) and complementary tea/coffee/chocolate/cappuccino. Complimentary sherry and homemade cakes are often available in our newly opened guest lounge.

We recommend stopping at the entrance so we can collect your luggage and direct you to the car park. If you wish to go straight to the car park it is the first entrance on the right as you pass Virginia Cottage. Please park on the right.

Elim House was built in 1849 as a gentleman's residence and as such is full of character, and has it's own little idiosyncracies, in fact it still has the stable room where the horses for the owner's carriage were kept. Some guest bedrooms are in an annexe that used to be a hayloft but has been brought into the 21st century with great creativity. Some rooms have beams and some are on the second floor. Please note that as it is not a custom built hotel there is no lift.

By road: Turn left off a591 onto a5074. Follow the road for approximately 1 mile. Please note we are not elim bank hotel, or elim lodge. Turn left at Bowness lighting shop, which is the second road on the left past the police station. Elim House is the first house on the left hand side on Biskey Howe Road. On-street parking on this road has no restrictions. If you cannot find a parking space, please park opposite, and we will advise on private parking on registration. On foot: From the railway/bus station, turn left and follow the main road down through Windermere for approximately 1 mile. Turn left at the Bowness lighting shop; we are the first house on the left.

Children and babies can not be accommodated at the hotel. No coach parties, no single-sex parties. Minimum 2-night booking at weekends, minimum 3-night bookings on public holidays. Elim House is now a non-smoking establishment. Late check-ins (after 21:00) must be agreed prior to arrival. Payment Information: Guests wishing to settle accounts with credit cards will incur a surcharge of 3%. This does not affect debit card transactions.
