The hotel is situated on the south-eastern side of Bath centre, above and behind Sydney Gardens. By Car: From Bristol: - After the dual carriageway, take the Lower Bristol Road (A36) into the city, through 2 sets of traffic lights. - Follow the one-way system and the signs for the A36. - Weave under the railway, around the back of the station and pass the Menzies Hotel on your left. - At the next set of traffic lights, proceed ahead under the railway bridge, go straight over the next roundabout and then turn right into Sydney Place (by the Holburne Museum). - The entrance to The Bath Spa Hotel is 180 metres (200 yards) up the hill on the right hand side. From London: - Exit the M4 at junction 18 and take the A46 to Bath, approximately 13 km (8 miles) until the major roundabout. - At the roundabout turn right, joining the A4 and follow the signs for 'City Centre'. - After 1.6 km (one mile), at the junction of the A36 and the traffic lights, turn left following the signs for the A36. - Follow the road over Cleveland Bridge and past the Fire Station. - At the traffic lights turn right and then take the next left, after the Holburne Museum, into Sydney Place. - The entrance to the Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel is 180 metres (200 yards) up the hill on the right hand side. By Air: Bristol International Airport has excellent regional and European flights and also regular flights to New York. There is a helicopter landing pad near the hotel at Lansdown for which advance permission is required. Bristol International Airport - 35 km (22 miles). Heathrow International - 160 km (100 miles). Birmingham International - 145 km (90 miles). Gatwick - 233 km (145 miles). By Rail: Bath Spa station is about 1.6 km (one mile) from the hotel. The service for London (75 minutes), Reading, Swindon, Bristol and South Wales is excellent, with trains at least hourly. There is a good service to Birmingham and the North via Bristol.

Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel - Hotel - Important information

All spa treatments need to be booked prior to arrival to ensure availability. Please contact the hotel direct, using the contact information provided on your booking confirmation email. Children can use the swimming pool between 09:00 and 18:00, if accompanied by an adult. They cannot use the other spa facilities. Hotel residents may use the spa from 12:00 (noon) on the day of arrival until 11:00 (check-out) on the day of departure. Should you wish to extend your use of the spa, a day pass can be purchased at a reduced rate. Gentlemen are required to wear jackets in the Vellore at the weekends. PETS: one dog is allowed upon request and it's 25 GBP per night.

Brunel, the famous English architect of the time, designed the hotel for the arrival of the railway in Victorian times. The Royal prefix was bestowed upon the hotel as a reminder of Queen Victoria's visit to the city of Bath. The hotel was originally named the Royal Station Hotel and commenced trading in 1846. In 1852, because of the growing influence of rail travel and the hotel’s close proximity to the station, an upper-level footbridge was built, directly linking the first floor of the hotel with the station platforms for the convenience of hotel guests. This footbridge remained until 1936. The Royal has changed ownership a number of times during its 150-year history and in March 1995, The PR Inns partnership acquired the business. PR is a small private company, wholly owned by its two partners who are highly experienced hoteliers and restaurateurs.

Bath is only 1 hours by rail from both London and Birmingham, and we are located close by the railway and bus stations, making 'getting to us' very easy. Breakfast, evening meals and traditional Sunday lunches are served by friendly staff in the dining room, which offers a table d'hôte menu for guests and non-residents. The evening meal is served every night of the week, except Sunday when we offer a traditional English roast lunch. As the hotel is owned by a temperance organisation, it is unlicensed and is one of the few completely non-smoking hotels in Bath, creating a pleasant atmosphere conducive to relaxation. Driving From the East and North exit the m4 at Junction 18. Follow the a46 towards Bath. After about 12 km take the a4 in towards the city for about 1.5km where you should turn left into the a36 towards Warminster. Drive about 500m until you reach a mini roundabout, turn right and take the next filter lane on the right which takes you into Great Pulteney street. The Carfax Hotel spans three houses, 13 to 15 in the middle of the street. From the South approach the City on the A36 and following signs for London and the M4. As you approach the city you will come to a mini roundabout with a park on yout left hand side. Take the left turning and drive for about 150m and turn right in the filter lane and you will be entering Great Pulteney Street. From the West. Take the A36 (lower Bristol Road)heading into the city. Continue to follow the signs for London, Warminster and the M4. Pass under the railway by Bath Spa station. Continue on the A36 and you will pass under the railway again. Once you have passed the Ayrlington and County Hotels on your left, turn left at the roundabout and follow the road into Great Pulteney Street. Turn left and you will see the Carfax Hotel in the middle of the street on the opposite side; numbers 13 to 15. By Train & Coach Bath Spa Railway Station and the main Bus station are about 15-20 minutes flat walk away from the hotel, and we would encourage you to take the walk as it passes the Abbey, the Parade Gardens and Pulteney Bridge en route. If you have heavy cases there is a busy taxi rank outside the train station which should cost you no more than about GBP 4-5.
